Seattle Police are investigating after they say at least four fires were intentionally set in the U-District Sunday night. The Seattle Fire Department responded to four fires around 10:15 p.m. Two fires were set near the intersection of 8th Ave. NE and NE 42nd Street. One fire was started in a dumpster and the other was started when someone set a couch on fire. There were two rubbish fires on NE 40th St., one at the 9th Ave NE intersection and the other at the 7th Ave. NE intersection. Much of this area is student housing. It does not appear that anyone was hurt or that any property was severely damaged. It's unclear if one person set these fires or if several people were involved. Seattle Police are continuing their investigation and have not released any suspect information. read more

Fire marshals working with the Bremerton Fire Department (BFD) are investigating a resident of the Midway Inn for arson after crews put out a 2-alarm fire at the motel Sunday. The fire displaced all 50 residents of the motel on 2909 Wheaton Way. read more

Police are looking for a man who blew up a car and caused a huge fire during a funeral at an Auburn cemetery last month. Investigators say the suspect also shot at City of Auburn employees. On Aug. 23, police say a passenger in a car put an explosive device in a funeral attendee's car during the memorial at Mountain View Cemetery, which is owned by the City of Auburn. The explosive device created an "immense fire," which destroyed the victim's vehicle and surrounding trees, according to Auburn police. An employee says that as a group of 60 to 80 people was mourning during the funeral, someone approached one of the parked cars, throwing something inside. "They saw a guy run up to the window and break it," said the employee, who asked not to be identified for safety. read more

Tragedy was averted Saturday morning in Port Angeles when police officers apprehended a suspect they believe set multiple fires near Albert and 5th Streets. At the same time, dispatchers got another report of a hedge that was burning on the 400 block of 7th Street. One witness reported two burned-out areas in the tall grass near a trailhead and provided a description of the suspect they saw fleeing the area. read more
