Arson award offered for Glacier Peak High School dugout fires

SEATTLE  – NW Insurance Council and Arson Alarm Foundation are offering an award from the annual $10,000 Arson Award Fund to anyone with information that leads to the arrest or conviction of those responsible for setting fire to the softball field dugouts at Glacier Peak High School in Snohomish, WA, last week.

Anyone with information about this arson is encouraged to call the Arson Hotline (800-55-ARSON).  Callers may remain anonymous.

NW Insurance Council and Arson Alarm Foundation offer awards up to $10,000 each year for Washington residents who provide tips to authorities that result in the arrest or conviction of arsonists.

“Arsonists hurt all of us by destroying lives and property and by driving up insurance rates,” said Karl Newman, NW Insurance Council president, “and these arsonists likely will strike again unless they are caught. Citizens are encouraged to call the Arson Hotline with any information they have about these fires.”

Arson is a deadly and costly crime, killing hundreds of people each year, destroying hundreds of millions of dollars in property and exposing firefighters to needless risk.

In 2013, nearly 22,500 deliberately set fires killed 150 people and destroyed $663 million in insured property including factories, residential buildings, churches and motor vehicles, according to the Insurance Information Institute.

Studies show that children are involved in nearly one-third of all arson fires set in the United States. FBI statistics indicate only 21 percent of all arson offenses result in arrests.

If you have information about an arson or suspicious fire, call the Arson Hotline at 800-55-ARSON or contact your local authorities.

The Arson Alarm Foundation and NW Insurance Council have awarded more than $100,000 to Washington citizens over the past decade.
